Re: [Digital BW] Ink settling in a 2100?

2005-05-17 by Phil Rose

Yes, I think I've had a settling problem happen with my 2200 after
installing a new (but about 8 months past its "Use Before" date)
light-cyan cartridge. The subsequent color prints had neutral areas
that were distinctly quite reddish. It occured to me that the outdated
condition of the LC cartridge might be to blame, so I replaced it with
a fresher (in-date) one. The next prints were much more neutral (but
not
quite). So I began to suspect the nearly empty cyan cartridge, which
was of a similar past-dated vintage (with a production date in late
2002). When I replaced it, the neutrals improved even more.

I concluded that the out-of-date cartridge(s) had settled, even though
when I installed them I gave it a quite few extra shakes (10 instead
of 5). I suspect the settling eventually becomes irreversible. That's
not uncommon with dispersed colloids--nothing is forever. However I
did not try simply removing the either of those cyan cartridges and
try shaking some more--that might have helped.

This was with Epson UC inks. It probably also explains why-- a few
weeks ago when I was doing B&W (QTR) printing with these UC inks--I
needed to use a 100% "cool" profile in order to print neutral tones.
