Ok a few more prints and a few more comments. I would say that the differential reflectance issue is likely completely dead with the new K3 inks. As for bronzing, I would say there is still a little left - I mean a little, perhaps a residual 2-3 percent. At any sensible viewing angle it is really not possible to detect any "bronzing". It really is very good. Black Only printing is supported but produces awful bronzing. For some reason (and I don't know whether this applies to the 4000), Epson has decided to make the available papers dependent on your location. So, for example, as they don't yet sell Premium Luster in the UK it is greyed out in the paper selection drop down list. This is a bit stupid as they seem to forget that people travel and purchase overseas (or simply order from overseas suppliers). My box of Premium Luster in the cupboard will have to wait until I can do a custom paper profile using one of the other paper settings. In fact, I can't even select Premium Semi-gloss - go figure! Regarding changing the black ink, I have not done this yet but they have supplied a Black Ink Changing Kit which is a set of Y, M and C cartridges. These need to be inserted before swapping the black ink. That is, K, Y, M and C cartridges are removed; the C, M, Y draining cartridges are inserted and ink is drained; these cartridges are removed; and replaced by the new K as well as the former C, M, Y cartridges. I have no idea why at this stage. For Mac users you still need to delete and then re-add the printer in Printer Setup Utility upon swapping the K cartridge. As for dMax, patch A1 of the Gretag Macbeth Eye One TC9.18 target (R=G=B=0) measures L*=6 or a density of 2.18 for Ilford Smooth Pearl paper. This is with standard settings ie I have not figured out how to increase the ink load etc yet. Finally I can't get the Utility to tell me the percentage ink left. Clicking on a particular ink doesn't bring up any further information.
