OK just off the phone with Epson. The ink limits are hard-coded for each
paper type selected. I think Joseph was tweaking the paper selection to get
an increased ink load. I pleaded for an ink limit setting to be introduced
into the 4000 and 4800 driver - I doubt it was heard.

The available paper types are restricted when one selects, as I did, a
"maximum" paper setting to get even 3mm margins on all sides - sheet media
only. Apparently this also applies to the 4000. I was told this was a
mechanical limitation although I am really puzzled as to what. So if one
wants centred prints from sheet media then paper types are very limited. I
guess I will have to get used to a 14mm trailing edge margin. As for ink
consumption there doesn't appear to be any way other than the rough visual
reading of getting a more accurate ink consumption figure per ink cartridge
- just a total figure via the printer menu.
