Ok now we're cooking. Ilford Smooth Pearl paper using Premium Semi-gloss 250
(Advanced B&W, Neutral and Darker) paper setting has a min L* of 2.9 (a dMax
of 2.49).  Err that's not bad.

(I have just printed a 256 step for soft proofing and will post the dried
Lab readings later.)
