Yes, it is the change from photo to matte, and takes about 94 ml of ink, not "free" but a big improvement over the 7600/9600 method (comparing methods here not ml because the big machines have much longer ink lines) and no, the 4800 does not have both matte and photo simultaneously. That was given up for the LLBlack. I don't know, but have heard, that matte on the 4000 MAY look similar to matte on the 4800---we'll know soon I guess. And if you have a 4000, there is indeed something to be said for keeping it for matte work. Of course there is always the question of money :( Scott --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Djon" <westsidemaurice@y...> wrote: > Yikes, I'm confused....is this "black change" the change between Matte > and Photo Black? > > I'd thought 4800 had both blacks built in, easy switching....wrong? > > Sounds like a hassle to go from printing color and semi-gloss/gloss > B&W to printing watercolor B&W. > > How much $time$ does change take, in addition to wasting a liter > (really?) of $pigment$ ? > > Does Matte Black from 4800 look a lot better with matte paper, just as > it does from 2200? > > Sounds like an argument for dedicated machines. > > Djon > > > --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Scott Graham" > <gebilwil@n...> wrote: > > Well it is "official" but a private source. > > > > During a black change, the printer only drains the black ink in > question, but then when the > > new cartridge is put in, it recharges all 4 inks on that side.
