Digital BW, The Print

Yohnnyboy, did you get your prints yet?
Well...  I just received the 4000/4800 samples on EPG.  
The linearization of the 4000 print is so poor, it's not even a fair 
fight.  The gray gradient is completely blocked up, and then jumps 
to what some would not call a dark grey.
What is even more of a surprise is according to the eye-one, the 
4000 (sic) print is near dead neutral at L*50 and the 4800 print is 
off by –2 in the b axis.

What you can see however is the bronzing is significantly better on 
the 4800.  The gloss differential is also significantly better, but 
you can still see it in areas where distinctly outlined patches 
without ink are, such as the sunset image and white coffee cup.  In 
the gradient strips you can see that a surprisingly small amount of 
ink density reduces the gloss differential significantly.

If you are thinking of getting these test prints, only the 4800 
print was of any value IMO.  I have not seen any other 4000 prints, 
but I'll bet they can be profiled better than the test print I 
received.
