I'm obviously back from the little trip I took to San Francisco and other places in the area. I must say the Paul Sack collection exhibit at the SFMOMA is outstanding for those of us who like old, historic B&W prints. If you like such and are not within reach of SF, the catalogue, "Taking Place, Photographs from the Prentice & Paul Sack Collection," is probably sold online and is very good. The web page on the exhibit also has a good brief description of some of the most widely used old processes. I was pleased to see that the first large reproduction in the catalogue was of a carbon print. It was a bit warmer than our current versions, but when they are close to 140 years old, they might be just as dark. I was saddened to see that the Ansel Adams gallery in Monterey is no more. That may not speak well for the popularity of B&W prints. Paul www.PaulRoark.com <http://www.paulroark.com/> [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
