Today I was at calumet photographic in escondido ca, which used to called north county camera. I must have a communication gap with those guys, cuz they never know what I am talking about if I ask about papers, inks, or printing in general. It is a great store with lots of stuff though. So I ask the guy "So have you gotten any 2400 epson printers yet?" (I have been asking this once a week for 6 weeks or so) and the guys says that they have some on "special order, so they are already sold". Then I ask if they have gotten any yet, wondering what he thinks of the output. He says they have not seen any test prints yet. About one minute later, I realize that I am looking right a 2400 all set up on the display floor. Next to it they have a book of test prints, all done on matte paper (not photo rag or EEM. It felt like inkjetart cool matte) with a really bright white coating. All of the test prints were in Black and white, all were about 4x6. None of them looked better than my UT2 inks on my 1280, but were about exactly the same. That should come as no surprise, because the 2400 supposedly really shines on non-matte papers. Who Knows if the test booklet was even done on the 2400. It was sitting right next to the 2400 however. I'll go back tomorrow and see if there is a more "with-it" person working there. I will see if I can make a print on semigloss. It seems to be hooked up to a computer and everything.
