Might require opening the two machines to hopefully be able to see where the micro controller comes from and what it is, and then only if they didn't pay for a special OEM stamp on the chip casing. Chances are good that it comes from Hitachi, but just a guess. There is a chance that Epson has a hidden command that will let a RIP use that other channel, and if there is it should come to light with the command set for the 4800. This chance may be slim, so don't hold you breath. Now if by chance, they use the exact same main board, then it will just be a matter of modifying a few lines of the 4800 firmware so that the 4000 updater will work with it. Should be a fairly easy task for anyone that regularly uses any of this level of micro controller. So, anyone willing to take the mainboard out of their 4000 and 4800?
