Digital BW, The Print

The book you're looking for doesn't exists yet. I'd recommend 
investigating workshops that are specifically focused on digital 
printing. The Anderson Ranch offerings are the best I've seen. For 
color management I can highly recommend the workshops offered by the 
Graphic Intelligence Agency; very professional and thorough.

   Hello everyone,

I'm not at the level most of you are at as far as judging prints or
making them, but I'm also not at the level of books I see generally
available in bookstores in my area.  I am fairly comfortable in
photoshop, I've been using it for about 8 years but primarily for
computer graphics.  I've been using an HP photosmart 7660 printer for
about the last year, trying a few different consumer level papers and
sticking to the HP inks.  I print primarily black and white, but I do
print color as well.  I'd like to learn more in both areas.

I desperately need something to read, from a reputable source (I read
a lot on the net, and I can't afford to take the advice of every
expert).  I have learned a lot from the net, but I need a good book
to sit down with now.

As this is a printing forum, I'm asking for any recommendations on
books for intermediate printing.  I know terms like beginner,
intermediate and advanced are subjective...all I can say is I do read
a fair bit on the net, and I think I'm at the intermediate level.
I'm also not looking for equipment reviews or buying guides.  Like I
said, I have the 7660 now, I'd like to buy a used Epson 4000 when I
get back home (I'm currently working abroad), and I think I will
stick to something like Epson Enhanced Matte until my skills and my
eye improves.  I'm not really concerned about longevity in my prints,
though I do read about it for the future, other topics in printing
are the same for me.  I enjoy reading about them, and considering if
they have value for me, at this time.

I also want to learn more about color theory (again I want it from a
photographers/printers point of view so he/she can relate it to the
final output), color to B&W conversion (I am currently using a H/S
and Channel mixer layer) techinques, and sharpening (I'm generally
happy with my sharpening technique, but again I feel like you guys
always know more than me).

Sorry if my post is vague.  I'd love to know what kind of textbook(s)
would be used at the undergrad or graduate level.

I hope I haven't pissed anyone off with my first post...thanks for
reading my questions
