Jeff,

The last setup I used with the 2200 was a custom mix of MIS UT7 inks
(with GLOP and 3 blacks - PKN, Eboni, and PK) that worked well with
many papers. The printer finally broke down so I replaced it with a
new 2400 rather than spending the money on repairs. I purchased the
2400 with the intention of using it only for making small BW prints
on RC papers and so far that is what I've done (no matte printing
yet). The papers I've tried include Epson Premium Glossy, Premium
Semigloss, and Ilford Smooth Pearl. All produce a dmax in the 2.4 to
2.6 range. The Epson Premium Semigloss still exhibits objectionable
bronzing and gloss differential (GD) on some prints when printing
B&W, but I have seen neither bronzing nor GD on the other two RC
papers. The Epson driver does an excellent job with B&W using the
Advanced BW mode in the driver and even better when used in
conjunction with a profile made with Roy's new icc profile maker.
Neutrality, tonal smoothness, and dmax are all superb. Higher dmax
than what I was getting with the 2200 and MIS inks and I like the
appearance of the 2400 RC prints better than the glopped 2200 RC
prints on the same papers. The 2400 is also now supported by QTR so
that opens up even more options. I don't know yet if the 2400 has
any advantages for matte printing, since I do all of my current matte
work on a 4000 with MIS inks.
