Nick, I did not know the 1800 had both inks installed; good to know. It sounds like you found a good reason for using both on matte paper. What Dmax are you getting on glossy? Does QTR do anything differently for the matte nozzles, or is this how the Epson printhead for the R1800 is programmed to work? For now my workaround is to use the PK ink as the light gray with density/ink-limit at 12/30 and I'm able to create very smooth profiles, actually even smoother than my glossy ones, even smoother than the toned glossy profiles. Now I believe I can print a very wide range of media on the R1800 but still I wonder why there is such a difference. Also on a previous posting I mentioned some sort of banding around .6 inch within the top margin which I managed to avoid by printing with top-placement=0.6.
