RE: [Digital BW] Evolution RIP

2005-07-20 by John Moody

I get similar, wrong results for every test/linearization chart as well as
printing an image from Layout.
Steve said the 720x720 part of the driver was finished, and if I were
interested in purchasing the software, he would talk about finishing it. I
figured I could evaluate enough of it at that resolution to know if I wanted
to proceed towards a possible purchase.

No text line comes out, just the image.

I spoke to Steve. There are very specific settings in the driver for
microweave and variable dot size; and they don’t default. He did not have
time to look them up as he had other calls coming in; that’s understandable.
I played trial and error and found settings that seem to work.
He said that in 1440x2880 mode, the 2200 has only one dot size, where there
are three at 720x720, so at 2880 no dot size linearization would be needed.

Sounds a little like you are printing the ink reduction image, which
for the most part, you can skip and just set the saturation at about
60 or 65 (general tab, output settings). Your limits shouldn't be set
yet. Now when you go to file --> linearize, move over and select the
type of chart size (i1, normal, etc.) Then file --> linearize -->
print 6, 18, or 52 chart you should get the normal step gradiant that
you're expecting. If you get something other than the steps, there is
really something wrong, as that's a core process, and the same for
every printer. If you print the variable dots charts, then things
might be different, I never use those charts, and just keep my
machine on micro-dot.

Did Steve give you an idea when he might be able to finish the driver
for the 2200? And if your prints are starting with 2 lines of text
that go something like:

284.4
@EJL

Then an error is being generated, and who knows what the printer will
do with the rest of the incoming data.
