RE: [Digital BW] Evolution RIP

2005-07-20 by John Moody

Yes, Steve said there are lots of people using it with small printers like
the 4000. Nobody with a 2200.
I’m not thrilled with what Epson did with the 2400 and 4800, so I’m going to
wait and see what comes next. In the mean time, if I can get better prints
from my 2200 with a rip that will support a 17” Epson printer in the future
at no additional charge, I’m inclined to go that way in anticipation of the
new inks Paul is working on, making the 2200 even better.

It’s non-obvious how you came to that curve, but nice to know you can. :-)

I bet it works better on the 4000, not that that helps you any. And
all I can say is that it works well on my 9500, now all I need to do
is get him to write the rest of the driver so I can do head mapping,
and link channels differently from the "normal" CcMmYK that it is
now. The only other thing I think it might need is a different CCM as
I don't think the windows type works as well as the newer
Heidelberg/Apple/Adobe engines. But I'll start that push later, I've
still got most of a year left.

And the only other RIP that claims to have the same amount of ink
control is from Onyx, but it didin't want to work on my sytem, so I
could never verify this (and it's twice the price).

You may never need to make an ink curve like this, but it's good to
know that you can if need be:
