Maybe something in my constant ink cartridge changing triggers the action on
the left pad.

No, we talked about that one also.  The repair person said that the printers
have a pump that pulls the inks through that pad, so there is much less
chance of a problem on the right side.

Of course, this is all just one repair person's opinion, and he was not very
familiar with 3rd party inks.  The relative size of our little market, in
fact, is reflected in his having no knowledge of the "quad" printing inks.
