Digital BW, The Print

Hi

I'm trying to create QTR curves for my Epson 4000, UC and HPR. I used 
Tom Moores clear tutorial, but when I print the initial ink limits 
page, most of the inks seem to be maxing out way earlier than the 
tutorial would suggest (Like at 30) especially the Matt Black. 
(measured with eye-one) Is this normal? Using the curves that come 
with the software I am getting prints that look way too dark in the 
midtones which is why I went down the custom route.

When I print the modified Ink limits, using the ink limit slider, 
should I be aiming to get a  smooth gradation in the black ink from 0-
100?
