Yep, I'm on my second set of EZ carts (all positions) at this point.
They were purchased separately, about seven weeks apart, and I purchased
pre-filled carts; I've never refilled and reset the carts or anything
like that.

No, I've not tried the Epson chip in the MIS cart. I'll put this on my
list of things to do, but I'll hunt for the PDF you mentioned first.

I'm not knowledgeable about inkjet technology. Is the ink being fed by
gravity and/or capillary action into the jet, or is there a pump? There
is a large vent on the top of the MIS carts, which is not present on the
OEM carts. Could its presence somehow be allowing excessive amounts of
ink into the jet, thus resulting in dots on the paper when the jet
clears itself?

That could be.

I don't think I have any traction to get Epson to do anything about it
if it is, though. Since the printer works flawlessly with the Epson
inks, it seems likely that Epson is going to say nothing is wrong, and
I'm not sure I would have a basis to disagree with them. And I'm a
little reluctant to head back down to CompUSA and buy a second printer;
my wife might want to discuss concepts like "throwing good money after
bad" if I do that. Not that I think the system is useless with the dots;
I'm learning a ton from it, but I'm just picky enough to want it to be
perfect.
