Problem printing with QTR on Epson 2200

2005-09-03 by tony_morielli

Hi,

This message is to request help with a problem with the Quadtone RIP
used for an Epson 2200 loaded with the Piezography K7 inkset. The
Quadtone RIP version is 2.2.4, which is the most recent from what I
can tell.

The problem is that most of the time the TIF files sent for printing
do not print. Instead, the printer grabs the paper, but the paper-out
light comes on. The print status goes from spooling to printing and
the print size increases to a certain point (21.4 MB for my most
recent image). Then nothing happens. If I retry it several times and
I'm lucky, it will print. But most of the time it just repeats what
it did previously.

All files are flattened and are 8 bit grayscale. Changing the size
and resolution of the TIF file has no effect. Re-starting the printer
has no effect. Re-starting QTR also is without effect. Changing the
paper size settings and all other settings (including resolution) has
no systematic effect. About 10% of the time re-trys will cause Windows
XP (home edition) to lock up, requiring re-start. Re-starting the
computer does not correct the problem. Disabling all firewalls and
anti-virus software has no effect. Finally, uninstall/re-install of
QTR had no effect.

Finally, this problem seems to be intermittent. There are times when
I can print several files in a row before it jams up. The printer
works perfectly every time with the Epson driver. There are no
apparent communication problems between computer and printer.

If anyone else has dealt with this I would appreciate your help.
While the K7 inkset is nice, if it can't be used without a
considerably more expensive RIP, then it's probably not worth having.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Tony
