Digital BW, The Print

I have a C86 with MIS EZN/PK cartridges.   It has begun to release gobs of 
ink onto the paper (Kirkland Photo Paper) when it prints -- sometimes in large 
droplets, sometimes in longer drools of ink.   A quick inspection of the 
cartridge bottoms reveals nothing out of the ordinary.   Is this a faulty cartridge 
or a faulty printer?
