Julian- XP is not your only choice (I agree very strongly that supporting Bad Bill on this one will only make the next one unbearable)... But Windows 2000 really gives you everything XP has except that it takes longer to reboot... Really that's about it. For what you are going to use it for, a good windows box will be a lot cheaper and more flexible. The plug and play really does work and that's 80% of the hassle with windows; it's definitely rock solid and crashes about 2% as often as windows 98. OS X is a nice system... I put it on my wife's G4 cube and it is elegant... But the limited amount of software available for it makes it a weak competitor for now... Also a lot of software manufacturers now do not give you a windows and mac version on the cd...separate purchases (which is really making us rethink our dual platform choice... Even with Virtual PC). While the mac is elegant... it is definitely no more stable than W2K... Both are industrial strength systems. Even in the graphics world, windows has caught up with mac... I'd say go with the easier and cheaper solution.
