Digital BW, The Print

The genuine Solux desk lamp with diffuser, not the knock-off stuff that just
use the 4700oK solux bulbs.  I have several of the knock-offs and there is
no comparison.
I don’t bother adjusting the voltage with external gadgets; just plug it
into the wall and use it.

Greetings All:

Some of the recent discussions about "eyeballing" prints has raised a
question in my mind. Assuming a calibrated monitor and the desire to
match print output to said monitor, exactly how are you folks judging
your print output?  More to the point, how does one create a
controlled, comparative evaluation environment, in a
home/hobbist/student situation, that allows this to happen. Seems to
be an important, yet not much discussed requirement, especially if one
is trying to make decisions on value and delicate (warm-cool) color
tone from screen to print. I suppose some of the pros in the group are
using expensive, dimable, color correct view instruments like those
from GTI or MacBeth, but these seem a bit much for the
home/hobbist/student to use. Can anyone describe a low cost solution
that works for them.  Thanks
