I, too, have been looking at a "box" upgrade. I use PCs at work (I'm a photographer on a newspaper), and a MAC (I do have a PC laptop for collecting information) at home. At home, all of my really good programs, like PhotoShop and Quark, are on the Mac. That's a lot of money to re-buy the programs and put on a PC. The difference in costs, then, represent how much I would have to pay to change platforms. As to stability, which should be considered as much as all the other specs, BOTH PCs and MACs bomb a lot. A day doesn't go by without my having to re-boot one or another machine either at home or work. But the PCs I've found for sale, sure give a LOT more bang for the buck. A dual 800 processor MAC runs from $3,000 to $3,400 depending on vendor. You can get a lot faster, with more memory (both kinds) with a PC. Bottom line for me, though, is I am broke. And the recession means I won't be getting a pay raise any time soon. Al
