I found that having two tanks putting dark gray ink down, I got a really
nice Dmax, but the surface of a solid black test patch had a very faint
mottled look. However, the ink seemed dry to the touch as quickly as the
lighter test patches, so it wasn't actually puddling. At some point I need
to experiment more. I'd certainly prefer to use real black ink, as it would
last longer, but the look was distinctly different from the grays on my step
wedges.
