Digital BW, The Print

My Epson 1280 has just started to die, printing very fine blue lines
across the page on premium glossy whenever it wants to.  (I've run
cleaning cycles and replaced cartridges.)  I guess it's time to look
for a replacement, 'cause I suspect repair will cost as much as a new
printer.  The 1280 has met my needs pretty nicely, but I'd as soon not
have to go and buy MIS inks to get a decent b&w and then switch
cartridges for color and text printing.  Might I ask for
recomendations?  The Pixma seem to be getting pretty good press.
