[Digital BW] Re: Epsons Velvet Art Paper users?

2005-11-09 by roleiman

Jim, I have been using VFA almost exclusively for the past two
years, printing color on my 2200. Now that I have the 2400, I am
looking forward to some B&W images. It is a wonderful paper. What
impresses me the most is the depth and density of color (with matte
inks, of course). Compared to VFA, the ink on Enhanced Matte seems
to sit on top of the paper. It is very delicate paper and prone to
scratching. I just spent the long dollar and bought some 13x19 Epson
UltraSmooth. It has the same capacity for depth as VFA without the
texture. I find that this smooth paper is more suitable for images
that have great detail, some of which can be lost in the FVA
texture.
Unfortunately, UltraSmooth costs twice as much as VFA. I am looking
for some custom roll stock, becasue the smallest is 17". If you want
to treat yourself, check out the UltraSmooth. There is a local
landscape phoographer who sells a ton of 40" prints made with Ultra
on his 9600. They are the real deal. Can't go wrong with VFA, though.
You may find the attached link below informative. This fellow put
some serious time into this paper evaluation. Good luck.
David
