[Digital BW] Re: Low Dmax on Epson 2200 with K7 inks response

2005-12-01 by wwodets

Josh-

Yes. I had reversals in the 90-100% grays with HPR on the 2400
through the ABW. I did not try 1440. I did try limiting the ink
with the ABW driver (a feature on the 2400 driver, but not the 4800)
and this did not solve the problem. I do get a linear target from
the 4800 on HPR with no adjustments. The Crane Museo (original) also
showed this problem on the 2400 and I have not tried it on the 4800
because I don't want to use it for other reasons.

I would add, more or less in line with this discussion, that I have
been using a lot of the Epson UltraSmooth on the 4800 and that it
looks a lot better than it measures (measures 1.65 or so, but I'd
say, compared visually to the VFA (measures 1.75-1.77), that it looks
more like a 1.70-1.72). So the measurement isn't everything--how the
ink sits on the paper and the sheen of the ink have a lot to do with
final results. The buildup of ink on the HPR reduces the visual
impression of dmax to me.
