Digital BW, The Print

Hi,
Just inherited an Epson 7000 loaded with Piezography BW inks  
( selenium with portfolio black).
I would like to build a custom curve/profile for this combination. I  
downloaded  QTR which looks
like it would do the trick, but I find the documentation is actually  
so thorough I can't follow it.
I do have an Eye-One, along with the Measure Tool  with which to read  
patches if I could just get some guidance
in wading through the procedures. It seems like I  need to load some  
curves in the rip even before printing
any targets?  Excited, but intimidated.
