Finn: I too still use film - and you gave me a lot to think about. Like you,
I don't have to "please" clients, although I sure hope that some prints sell
when I exhibit, or my gallery will not be very happy. I have a film and
contact file named "rejects." I went through it recently and found lots of images
I want to work with. I have no idea why I rejected those images years ago -
and am now very excited working with them. I do keep looking at websites
comparing digital cameras, and inspecting the new digital cameras and prints of
friends. I also notice that many of the stores where I always bought film have
closed, or no longer carry some of the film I want - or the film is no
longer made. The other day, it cost me $16.98 US per 36 roll of P 1600 ). I will
pay a small pro lab for processing. ( I dread getting the bill).
I feel so comfortable with my cameras and scanners, and I can't face having
to learn another whole new technology ( it was hard enough to dive into
computers and Photoshop and scanners and assorted printers at my advanced age),
let alone abandon all the expensive equipment. I'm still clueless about what
RAW means! However, I think that eventually we'll have to bite the bullet and
go digital. The big decision: Nikon or Canon.
Good luck,
Arlene
