Digital BW, The Print

Just got a used Epson 2200 and filled it with Media Street quadblack 
inks and am now in process of trying out QTR.  Im used to Qimage with 
my color work so a little learning curve.  New to the 2200 as I have a 
Canon i9900.  Really new to b&w printing but ive learned a lot on 
DPReview and got a link to this forum from Greg.  My questions range 
from how does the curve creation software work(easy or hard) to what 
papers everyone likes.  Im currrently trying Media Street papers as 
there are curves supplied in QTR for these and Museo II- havent tried 
that yet.  I read the tutorial and it suggests leaving the paper type 
selection on matte even for other papers.  If this is so then how does 
QTR know to spray the glop for gloss? Any input appreciated.  ANy 
links to good b&w workflow or related suggestions also appreciated.  -p
