Re: [Digital BW] Digital vs. Film: the ANSWER

2005-12-23 by BKPhoto@aol.com

Thanks, Clayton.

What I should have added to my last message is that the cost and effort
of working digitally will continue to improve. As technology advances,
the techniques photographer's use to create digital images will become
more standardized, accessable, relatively less expensive, and easier to
master. Which parallels what happend with film-based/wet darkroom
photography, abeit in a much more concentrated time frame.

Prior to recent improvements in camera raw processing (Photoshop CS2
and Aperture) and Epson's ABW mode, I would have placed digital imaging
roughly in the dry plate era. I think we've just transitioned from dry
plate to roll film (circa 1890). It's only going to get better. The
technology will continue to improve rapidly; techniques will become
increasingly transparent.

Hope everyone has a good and restful holiday.

   Hello Bill,

It's great to read about such a good and sensible approach. I hope
the students there appreciate what a good program they have. If they
don't now I'm sure they will later.

Clayton
