Glitter & Zeolites,

2006-01-03 by Christopher L. Johnston

Small correction from a rock head:

Zeolites are not a mineral in the sense that quartz or halite is a mineral
rather they are a class of minerals or a mineral group with variable
structures within a set of chemical and physical limits. They are classified
as tectosilicates and compositionally they are framework hydrous
aluminosilicates. They are characterized by open channels of a uniform size
at an atomic level, hence there use in industry in everything from petroleum
to kitty litter as molecular sieves.
