Hello Wren, >Does the group have a FAQ to help out those just >starting out trying to print B&W from color digital. There is a short FAQ page and several articles about getting started at the link below. The FAQ is #7. > First question is converting with Photoshop ... > I found a couple of recommended techniques: the > Russel Brown (Adobe) Technique, and an Action > developed by Rob Carr. Both seem worth trying. > Are there others the group recommends? In the FAQ page there is a description of the technique I use. I've found it to be a good middle ground between the simplest and most complex of the techniques. It gives IMO the "most bang for the buck" in control vs complexity. >Does one then just flatten the image and leave it >in sRGB color space? It depends on how you want to work. I convert to grayscale mode after the color-to-BW conversion (whichever technique is used) because it reduces file size by 2/3. I have not found any advantage in the end result to keeping the file in RGB mode. >What about settings to use when printing on an R2400? >Should one check "Advanced B&W" even if one just leaves >it set to "neutral"? One of the articles (#9) outlines a simple workflow for the 2400. It does not require any icc profiles or curves, and is a great way to get started. It is a detailed step-by-step outline with explanations that should answer most of your questions. Regards, Clayton Info on black and white digital printing at http://www.cjcom.net/digiprnarts.htm
