BW printing on EPSON2400 - Help needed

2006-01-29 by j25nde

I recently bought an EPSON2400 for B&W printing. The sample prints
that I saw from this printer were breathtaking. My own print are far
from that. Maybe I'm doing something wrong and someone of this group
can share his expertise.

The image was processed in PhotoshopCS2. When printing I select the
ColorHandling parameter: "No Color Management" in the print preview
dialog.

The printer settings I'm using are the following:
- Premium Glossy Paper
- Best Photo or PhotoRPM
- Advanced B&W Photo
- Color Toning neutral

The result is a print that has somehow a light yellowish look
(although all toning settings are on neutral). When I print the same
image on my old Canon PIXMA8500 the image looks much more "neutral" B&W.

Any ideas what's going wrong here? Is there any mode to prevent the
printer from using other than the black PK, LK and LLK inks? I made
the observation that the LM cartridge is nearly empty although I'm
printing 80 % B&W.

Any ideas are highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Juergen

PS: If anyone from EPSON read this, please have a look how other
companies create user friendly manuals! Mixing the explanations for
the three different operating systems in one document is really a
stupid idea. The user who wants to read the entire document (yes,
these people really exist ;-) ) has to skip 2/3 of the pages because
they deal with non-relevant OS information. Nice would be a separate
document for each OS.
