Exim Vaios cuts it down to size; they evidently cut the 8.5x11 from a
roll, as the paper I received was very curly, and it doesn't really
want to flatten much.  I do like the way it prints, though (K3 inks).

Is there a trick to flatten paper like this, or is it just something
you put up with until it's framed?

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
