Clarence, I have been using a 7000 with Cone Inks and Image Print for three years, spent time with a 7600, and also now own a 4800 for the past 4 months. The prints that I am making with a 4800 just using the Epson driver (Qimage on ocassion) are quite nice. The tint picker does not allow for split tone like in IP, but the single tone B&W type print, cool to warm, are very nice. If I was to start fresh today, I'd try that package first (or the larger X800's if bigger where you want to be) and see how that works for you. You can add IP later if you feel that if will provide a fine tune adjustment you can't get with PS and teh Epson drivers.
There are other RIPs or RIP like solutions that may put you "over the top" in trying to match your wet darkroom experience.

Hello Clarence,
You can speak to those using the latest printers ie:24/48/78/9800's to
see what they have to say, but it sounds to me as if what you want
pretty much precludes anything other than dedicated Grays and tints,
so you seem to have answered your own question.
Regards
Duane
