Gavin: I think your actions and the effects they create are very good, they just don't look like infrared to me. I have been shooting with a 20D with the IR cutoff filter removed and replaced with clear. This makes the camera very sensitive to IR. There are several different filters I use (such as Hoya R72, 25 red, etc) depending what type of look I want to achieve. Different factors such as time of day, angle of light, skin type or even the overall health of plants that are in the image can create totally different look. Please don't misunderstand me, your actions are a very attractive way to process the images you have used as examples. They just lack the subtle light and tonal difference of IR. Not everything can be done in PS.
