Hi Peter I have been using the 880 for about a month now with great results. The major difference I think is that the 880 does not have a "chip" on the ink cart and the 890 does. Overall it (880) seems fast, quiet and no banding. I'm using the MIS VM ink set and have been able to work somewhat with Paul Roarks curves for the Epson 3000. And have worked up some of my own curves, by eye, sorry no densitometer available. I have used only MIS inks since starting up this printer and have not had to do any head cleaning(knock on wood. I'm running this on PC, PS 6.0.1 various papers. Good luck Don
