Digital BW, The Print

Will printer (1160) still be able to print if only one cart is full ?

I know for 100% sure that the black ink is ok - if the col is empty, 
which I suspect, do you know if that would prevent a printout of just 
black ink - for example some text in a Word document - and then in 
the printer driver selecting the black ink instead of col. Would it 
still print if the col cart was empty ? Or does the printer need both 
to function at all.
