In this digital world, flexibility is really the answer. While I can proudly say, "film is dead", I completely empathize with Tyler's love of film grain for a "specific look". Sure, film is relatively cheap to shoot, but then you have to process it, then scan it. . . the workflow with a digital camera is so-o-o much easier and quicker. Wouldn't it be great if someone like Andromeda software (http://andromeda.com/main/ photoshop.php) could be talked into developing a grain filter that would satisfy the likes of Tyler, as Ernst has suggested? Then you could shoot digital, get creamy grain-free color images, then convert to B&W apply the grain filter to achieve exactly the kind of look you want.
