Hi, Yes, save and archive in raw format. Smaller files, keeps all the information that Nikon puts in. Also save the files with the raw conversion details with them if you can. Probably 95% of your work never needs to touch Photoshop. In some big picture agencies that figure is very close to if not exactly 100%. When we shot on slide, it went straight out to the client as it was, and things generally don't need to be much different now. Use decent raw converter software to make overall adjustments - exposure, contrast, curve etc. Opinions are mixed on PS for raw conversion, and it hasn't impressed me. Photoshop is almost essential for when you have a lot of time and want to get the most out of images for high quality prints. IMO there isn't much wrong with PS7, and there may not be a lot of point in upgrading if you are on that, just don't use it to convert your raw files. Ditch Photoproject. If you are using a Mac, download the Adobe Lightroom beta. If not, try Raw Shooter Premium, or possibly Nikon Capture. Usually you can archive the files that contain the raw conversion data along with the images so you can recreate the conversions when you need to rather than fill acres of disk with 16 bit tiffs. Most raw converters also will allow you to easily send files to PS when needed. I think all of these programs will eventually evolve into things that convert, correct, notate and catalogue files and probably make coffee too. At the moment its hard to do without several bits of software.
