Paul's curves work great with many papers. Your file must be in RGB ( I use Adobe rgb 1998) , Heavyweight matte media setting, same as source in the printer dialogue box. This is what I use for Epson Archival Matte water color paper, Epson Archival Matte paper, Photo Matte paper, and Eclipse Satine. For Photo Matte and Satine, you need to make about a 15 point adjustment in the middle levels slide in the dialogue box towards a darker image.
