QTR calibration help needed

2006-05-20 by ragarecords

Mac OS 10.4.6; Epson 1160; Photoshop CS; QTR 2.4. Cone warm neutral
inks. No trouble with the first step, printing the ink separation
test in calibration mode. But I can't figure out what to do next.
Roy's instructions say:

"Back to the 7500 example. We will use 50%. Edit the descriptor
file, Run-Quad-Profile, creating the curve set curve-name. Print out
the ink test pattern with this new calibration curve set in
preparation for the next step.

Is there a descriptor file I should be using? Every attempt to modify
the file 1160-fs.txt with CALIBRATION=YES and using the resulting
curve in calibration mode results in printing a blank page. (Quad1160
driver takes a while to generate the print file, but when it hands
off to the printer the paper just runs through.)

(I imagine Run-Quad-Profile is what is now (2.4) called
Drop-Quad-Profile.app and an alternative to using
Install1160.command).

The Calibration.rtfd document shows the second ink test page with
additional notation at top "Print with Raw CMYK" but I couldn't find
a file with this, so presumably it's the same inkseparation.psd file.

I tried interpolating from Tom Moore's Windows tutorial and simply
repeated the calibration mode with no curve set but with the tone
blend set 70-30, but the values I got: (K=100), C=39(% of K), M=47(%
of C etc), Y=45 gave a curve that made a grey scale like a roller coaster.

Any help appreciated!
