problems with VM curves

2002-01-16 by Piotr Janowski

Hello everybody on the list,

I am a photojournalist from Poland and have been a reader of this group for some time.
Since about a year I am printing all my stuff with the Original Mis Quadblacks on my 1160. The time came now to buy one of the new inks developed by Paul Roark. I got a CFS with MIS VM and installed it, I must proudly admit, without a problem. The noozle checks were 100 % ok.
I was completely blown away by the neutrality of the prints. Sometime I thought I saw just a little color cast but it was only when I really looked for one. I showed my prints to many other photographers and most of them couldn't really believe that it is just a inkjet print. I would like to pay my respect to Mr. Roark for his commitment and great work. Thanks to him my work has changed a lot. I finally have a lot more time to photograph than to sit in the darkroom for hours and hours not being happy with the results.
I have one problem though and was hoping that nayone can help me.
I have noticed that sometimes after applying the curve (mostly NC) the print looks strange in some parts of midtone and shadow areas after coming out of the printer, visible for example shadow area of the face(under the chin) this was not visible when the image was greayscale and later converted to rgb. I hope it is only a minor problem. The same scans printed before on the original MIS didn't show this.
Did anybody experience that also?
finally, please appologize for my poor and simple English,
many Greetings to everybody,

Piotr Janowski
