>> I just called one of the stores. They said they will take up to 25 carts and give a copon for each. BUT - the store will only accept a maximum of 3 cupons per day towards purchases....that makes the carts quite expensive. It's not worth it. Too bad. Best to order from Atlex and let UPS do the driving.<< Sorry that I wasn't more complete in my post, but I wasn't suggesting to buy your carts from Staples (especially since most Staples don't carry 2400 carts, so you have to buy online). Like you, I buy at Atlex The $3.00 coupons are issued for carts purchased from any seller, not just Staples. Then I use the coupons to buy other supplies I was needing anyway. Additionally, I believe the coupons are good for online purchases. $9.00 off each purchase isn't bad considering I am always needing something from Staples and the empty carts have just been piling up! In the end, the cart's cost drops down about 27% to $8.20. (I have no affiliation with Atlex or Staples.) If you don't live near a Staples and don't order online, then of course other things factor into the economic equation. You can always make one trip to Staples and turn in your 20 carts, get your twenty coupons, and then pass them out to family members, friends or charitable organizations who shop at Staples on a regular basis. It is better than throwing the carts away because at least somebody will get the $3 benefit and the carts are being recycled by Staples as opposed to filling up the landfill :) Another option for your empty carts is that many schools and charitable organizations now collect empty carts and then sell them in bulk to brokers as part of fund raising projects. One additional caveat that hasn't been mentioned, the Staples coupons are only good for 3 months from date of issue.
