I think it puts too much color in the "Advanced B&W" mode printing. That's why I have one set up with MIS LK, LLK and even LLK in the Y spot. (MIS LK and LLK are warmer than Epson K3 and give this setup a better range.) Then it uses the minimum amount of color and makes prints that are about as good as it gets. A 1290 that is working correctly can visually match the 2400, but it would be slower. Re-check all the settings by looking at my UT2 write-up at http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/UT2-Readme.htm Also, print see the test files I have at http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/Test-files.htm These will tell you whether the inks are loaded correctly.
