Digital BW, The Print

I'm just getting into digital after 20 years of darkroom B & W. I 
have a Epson 1270 printer(plus Photoshop 5) and would like to do 
11x14 B & W prints. Can I get enough scanning resolution from a film 
scanner that scans in the 2700-2900 dpi range, such as the Acer 
Scanwit, Minolta, Canon, etc. to do this, or do I need to step up to 
the 4000dpi class? Any advise or suggestions would be much 
appreciated. Thanks very much.
