Thanks, Philip, very helpful. I think I was too much a slave to that ink monitor. I did begin to suspect it might not be all that accurate. Also, before hearing back from you, I (cautiously) tried out that SSC utility--- and eventually got a definitive red light for new cart needed, the cart moved over, I re-filled the spongeless cart, and everything's back to normal. But next time I'll learn from your helpful comments how to safely work around some of those issues. Still getting a little banding, my orignal subject in this thread :). That's all that's left. Guess I'll try some more nozzle check and cleaning cycles. Is it true it's harmful to do more than three of those cycles, then a print, then three more cycles, then letting the printer rest - otherwise damaging the printer?
