Kodak announces printers with focus on inexpensive ink

2007-02-07 by Brian Smokler

Kodak has announced printers with much less expensive ink and greater
volume cartridges than their competition. Kodak's site here

q-locale=en_US&_requestid=7865> and USA Today article here

p=34>  .

  Kodak is doing well in the consumer point-and-shoot camera space, but
they are barely on the radar for printing. It looks like they are
trying to stir up the market by addressing customer discontent with the
leading printer makers' expensive OEM replacment inks.

Given Kodak's impressive history of innovation in the imaging realm, I
am befuddled how they have simply allowed the transition from film to
electronic imaging pass them by. I wonder how good these printers will
be and if they might work for fine art B&W printing?

I wonder if this is the first shot in a battle over super cheap printers
and expensive inks?
