Paul, I've been injecting isopropyl alcohol through the heads on my Epsons (2200, 1160) for years when having intractable problems and the 1160 at least has been in light use for over 6 years. I know it's not a common practice and many users are reluctant to adopt this cleaning method, but I guess we can all relax about it now. BTW, a 1cc plastic insulin syringe is a convenient size and has a tip (no needle) that fits nicely on the nipples in the printhead.
