Re: [Digital BW] NR - NeatImage works very well!

2002-01-26 by kharim_hogan

Hi,

I've tried a number of these noise reduction techniques and have been
getting, by far, the best results so far from this NeatImage software
(http://absoft.hotbox.ru). There is a learning curve and it isn't
the fastest solution available but the results that can be obtained
are fantastic. It works by doing a frequency based analysis of the
noise which allows for some very specific fine-tuning of the NR in
your images. Many of the Photoshop actions out there use some form
of blur and median to globally reduce the noise thereby yielding some
loss of detail at the same time. I've found that with some patience,
I can virtually eliminate grain/noise from images with NeatImage
without any loss of detail. As well, there is a smart sharpening
algorithm incorporated in the software which also works quite
nicely. One can either use their smart sharpening or sharpen
afterwards in PS.

Anyway, if you want to see a bit of an example, I have posted one
(temporarily...this link won't be active much longer) at the
following URL: http://pages.infinit.net/ndims/Temp/NRTests/

I used the beta version of NeatImage for these examples. A newer
version has since been posted with many enhancements and which is
faster.

Hope that helps some.
